Venous diseases are a widespread disease. They can cause various complaints and lead to complications, such as phlebitis, skin and tissue changes, and even ulcers of the legs. These complications can usually be avoided by timely therapy.

In diagnostics, we have vein function examinations (VVP, LRR) as well as various sonography methods (Doppler examinations, venous color duplex sonography) at our disposal.

Our therapy spectrum includes a conservative approach, sclerotherapy (including duplex-guided foam sclerotherapy) as well as surgical procedures.

Here, we have modern endovenous procedures such as radio wave obliteration and laser therapy at our disposal. These gentle procedures mean that classic stripping surgery is rarely necessary. Sometimes a minimally invasive side branch removal is sufficient.

Which method is used is decided individually for each patient.

From the radio waves energy is produced in the form of heat and due to the heat the non-functional vein shrinks. Now from this point the blood creates new paths through the branches and junctions with the deep venous system.

The energy or heat can also be produced by the laser and the heat immobilizes the non-functional vein. From this point on, the deep vein takes over the activity of the immobilized vein.

Under certain conditions, we perform varicose vein surgery using the MOCA (mechano-chemical ablation) technique. Here we puncture the non-functional vein and advance a catheter, then through the catheter we inject ultrasound-guided an agent that eliminates the affected vein. No anesthesia is needed here, which is an advantage.

There is another method of varicose vein surgery called VenaSeal, so that we puncture the dysfunctional vein and advance a catheter in the vein upwards guided by ultrasound, then we inject through the catheter a glue / agent that eliminates the affected vein, then the deep venous system takes over the function of the eliminated vein. Here are the advantages: first, no anesthesia, second, the patient can go to work immediately after the operation.
